The Yellow Banded Sweetlips, Plectorhinchus lineatus, has an incredibly beautiful body pattern and coloration that resembles a mosaic of whites, blacks, and yellows. As an adult, its body turns more white with thin, black horizontal striping across its body. Fins become yellow with black spotting. This Sweetlips eats a carnivorous diet consisting of small shrimp, crustaceans, small fish, and worms making it not reef safe. They are best kept in FOWLR tanks with plenty of swimming space and live rock hiding places. They require a well-aerated tank and should be fed at least twice per day.
The Yellow Banded Sweetlips thrives in coral reefs, rocky areas, and lagoons, typically found at depths ranging from 15 to 50 meters. Providing a setup that mimics their natural environment in aquariums is crucial for their well-being. Incorporating live rock structures and ample hiding spots helps create a secure space for them to explore and hide when needed.
While considered coral-safe, caution is advised when keeping the Yellow Banded Sweetlips with certain corals and invertebrates. It is advisable to monitor their interactions closely, especially with small, delicate species.
Yellow-banded sweetlips start small as juveniles, reaching around 2-3 inches long. However, they can grow up to an impressive 20 inches as adults. They can live up to 10-15 years with proper care, making them a long-term commitment for dedicated marine enthusiasts.
Yellow-banded sweetlips are carnivores with a penchant for a varied diet. In captivity, they thrive on a combination of high-quality pellets, frozen shrimp, and other meaty foods. A diverse menu ensures they receive the essential nutrients and vibrant coloration for their health.
