Suttonia Soapfish should only be added to well established aquariums with plenty of rock work with caves and crevices to hide in. Soapfish are very secretive and will hide until food is presented. They have low metabolism's and only require feeding every other day. Soapfish are usually very friendly fish except to fish or crustaceans they can fit in their mouth.
Should be housed with larger peaceful tank mates and only one grouper per aquarium. Provide a diet of meaty enriched foods. If not eating offer fiddler crabs to entice feeding response.
Soapfish emit large amounts of waste, so ensure the filtration system can handle the waste.
Some soapfish can release a toxin called grammistin when threatened or die that looks like soap.
Red soapfish are also known as the Freckleface Podge. Not often seen in the aquarium trade.
Red Soapfish are a dark red with some mottled dark brown coloration with a dark red to grey coloured head and lighter coloured belly, with a white stripe running down the middle of their head.
It is recommended that they be placed in an aquarium of at least 100 gallons.
The Red Soapfish can grow to little over 14".
